Thanksgiving is a great time for us to count our blessings. It seems so easy to focus on the negative in our “same-old, same-old” everyday life. Whether it’s teenagers, or pre-teens giving us trouble, or the clerk at the DMV, there is always something to complain about. Sometimes our complaints have much more gravity and are certainly justified, at least in our own minds.

I have a lot to complain about this year. I am making a choice today, and nearly everyday, to leave my complaints alone and be grateful for things like “my daily bread.” That famous songwriter, King David, wrote: “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” When I’ve got my head in the right place I can see that I have everything I need. I can also see the finger of God as He has traced it on the tapestry of my life.

So, another day to enjoy. The family here at the Ranch is conspiring to prepare dinner. I don’t have any actual work that I have to do. Amen! I can feel that attitude of gratitude bubbling up.
