In my former life as a lawyer potential clients and clients would ask me: “What’s going to happen? (with my case)” Over the years I have learned that no matter what, people want to hear my prediction. I guess this also explains the fascination with horoscopes and psychics. The human being wants to know the outcome. As one who has been asked and has answered this kind of question many times I can tell you that the real answer is “I have noooooooooooooooo idea.”

What is going to happen to all of us? Life is going to happen, that’s what. Whether it feels as though you are climbing uphill these days, when you get to the top of the mountain the next part of your journey is downhill! Life is full of these ups and downs. One must learn to “enjoy” the journey, the experience, the present. If we enjoy the present, the day we are given, today, then eventually we will begin to put together a string of “presents” that become the future that we are enjoying and a “past” we can smile about.

I have a friend who likes to say, “Only God knows (the future), and She’s not talking!” Sometimes, though, I think God does talk to us individually, we know he has a book out and he speaks through his best-selling book. If we believe the book, God knows our futures and everything is going to work out okay. So, even though I don’t know what is going to happen, I can rest in the arms of God. He can be trusted to carry me through. We walk through valleys, we have battles that we fight, but the presence of God in our life makes our “presents” survivable. Not not merely survivable, but full of joy.
