Reflecting on the Journey: Faith, Family, and the Power of Stories
As the New Year unfolds, I find myself looking back over a lifetime of experiences, connections, and lessons learned. Life has a way of weaving together threads of triumph and challenge, faith and doubt, heartbreak and joy into a tapestry far richer than we could ever have planned.
This tapestry is what drives me to write, to share stories, and to continue engaging with the incredible people who have shaped my life. From family legacies to new endeavors, every chapter serves as a reminder of the enduring power of connection and the grace that carries us forward.
Family Ties That Bind
My family’s history is a story in itself—a story of resilience, faith, and love. I think of my grandmother, Aldena C. Woolery, whose generosity and sacrifice opened doors for my education. I think of my uncle, Retired Colonel Douglas J. Wear, MD, whose wisdom and kindness gave me the start I needed in college. These family members showed me what it means to invest in the future of others.
Their legacy continues to shape my path today, whether in my advocacy for the elderly, my ministry, or my storytelling.
The Ministry of Stories
Writing and storytelling have always been central to my life. Through books like Confessions of a Dying Man, I’ve explored themes of redemption, grace, and the enduring power of love. My work as an elder advocate has given me a front-row seat to stories of resilience and hope, inspiring me to keep speaking up for those who need a voice.
This year, I’m excited to dive deeper into several projects, including Ghosts of Christmas: Finding the True Meaning of Christmas Amidst Heartbreak and Sorrow. It’s a story that I hope will resonate with anyone searching for peace and purpose in challenging times.
A New Chapter with All-In Ministries Church
In 2025, we’re continuing to grow All-In Ministries Church, a network of outreach and care dedicated to veterans, caregivers, and the vulnerable. This includes launching a hospice care practice, Sacred Touch Nursing and Care. It’s a reminder that ministry is about meeting people where they are—whether that’s providing comfort in their final days or fighting for justice on their behalf.
Looking Ahead
As I prepare for a trip across the U.S., I’m reminded of the beauty of taking life one step at a time. Whether it’s visiting old friends, exploring the Grand Canyon, or dreaming about Salvation City with David in Las Vegas, this journey is about savoring the moments that make life meaningful. I am inspired to call others to follow Jesus 24-7. My aim: A Prayer Vigil on Easter 2025. Will you join me as I caravan across the nation?
I’m also inspired by the younger generation—the dreamers and visionaries who remind us to keep looking forward. As Jeremiah said, “For I know the plans I have for you…plans to give you hope and a future.”
An Invitation to Join the Conversation
My hope is that this space, Charlie Wear’s Notes, continues to be a place for sharing stories, reflections, and inspiration. Whether you’re a caregiver, an advocate, a creative, or simply someone looking for a little hope, I want to hear your story too.
