🎰 In a town built on odds, everybody has a system. Don’t walk under ladders. Blow on the dice. Wear the lucky hat. Avoid the 13th floor.
Meanwhile heaven looks down and says, “Kid, you woke up.”
That’s already a miracle bigger than any jackpot.
You can lose a hand of blackjack.
You can’t lose a sunrise that God keeps dealing back to you.
✝️ Fear vs. Faith
Superstition says: Something bad might get me.
Faith says: Even if something does, it won’t get the last word.
ICU has a way of clearing the throat of illusion. Tubes, alarms, quiet prayers in the dark — they preach a sermon:
you are held together by mercy you did not manufacture.
The 13th doesn’t own you.
Breath is a gift.
Grace is not spooked by calendars.
🎸 A Little Country Verse
Well I woke up on the wrong side of maybe,
Clock on the wall said fear.
Devil whispered, “It’s the 13th, baby,”
But the Lord said, “I kept you here.”
I’ve danced with shadows in ICU light,
Heard machines sing low and hard,
But luck ain’t stronger than love tonight,
And mercy trumps the card.
What used to be a date of dread can become a monument.
Not “that’s the day I almost died,”
but
“that’s the day I learned every extra sunrise is borrowed glory.”
Vegas understands resurrection better than it admits. Every morning the lights click off, sweep the floors, and start again.
So can a man.
I met Glenn and Jade yesterday at the Taco Bell. Jade told me a story of brain injury and coma, disability and seeing God. 47 years married, Glenn’s loving care protects and sustains Jade. Jesus sent her back, with more to do in this life. Her testimony helped me take another breath and another step on my journey home…Such a beautiful story of love and care….
